New House Shopping

Yesterday afternoon we scouted some local neighborhood for sale signs. Then we came home and did a little bit of searching on realtor.com to get more information. We picked out 2 places we liked best (both mid-century modern) and hoped for open houses today. It was fun to think about installing boomerang formica counters in the kitchen, and filling the house with playful furniture.

A place that seemed very practical and also charming is just one block over from where we live now. Unfortunately, when we scouted today we saw that a for sale sign had been added.

And the other one we had scouted didn't have an open house today, but it looks like it has potential. But on more careful inspection, it appears as though it might not have air conditioning. Since it's often over 100 degrees here in the summers and into the fall, air conditioning is a must-have.

This afternoon, when we were unsuccessful getting in to see the mid-century houses in more detail, we drove around the neighborhoods a bit more, and we looked at some more modern houses. We found a basic garage-facade two-story home, where the house takes up nearly all of the lot. It's for sale by the owner, and we were able to walk through it. It was built in 2004 and has been very well maintained, and the paint colors screamed Pottery Barn and Ralph Lauren. It would be a really nice space for us, but we would essentially have no yard. It would also be nice to have a place to close Jake's toys and my craft things away without giving up dining room or family room space. So I'm willing to consider it.
